Set of Dentures in Glass of Water

When people first get dentures, they find that there is an adjustment period to becoming comfortable with wearing them. Many people are fearful that their dentures will fall out of their mouths or that they will be so uncomfortable that they will not wear them as they should. With the expense of dentures and the embarrassment of having missing teeth, people want their dentures to be worth the money and worth the adjustment. At Georgia Dentures & Implant Specialists, we work with all of our patients on a personalized level to ensure proper fit for their dentures. We understand the importance of a beautiful, complete, and natural-looking smile, and we are here to help you achieve it – and adjust to it.

Denture wearers must get used to eating with their dentures. It is recommended that new wearers should start with drinking water and eating soft, non-sticky foods such as yogurt, soup, scrambled eggs, etc. Avoiding meat and raw fruits and vegetables at the beginning will be helpful, especially if you are eating out. It is also important that food is cut into small bites for easiest chewing and that food not be bitten with your front teeth. By taking these precautions as you adjust to your dentures, it will help to stabilize your dentures so that they feel more natural in your mouth. Do not become discouraged! You will be able to eat most of the foods that you have always enjoyed soon.

This may sound a little silly, but it is also important that new denture wearers practice speaking before they go out into public. Because dentures will be foreign in the mouth at first, it takes a little while to get a feel for them. Reading aloud, speaking slowly and quietly at home, and speaking while looking in the mirror will help you begin speaking just as you did before your dentures were placed.

The experts at Georgia Dentures & Implant Specialists are here to help you get the most out of your dentures. We understand that there are many changes and adjustments that must be gone through for new denture wearers, and we are here to offer support along the way. You can trust the experts at Georgia Dentures & Implant Specialists to create a beautiful smile that you will be comfortable and happy with for years to come.

The office is very friendly and very professional. My dentist is Dr. Doug Yoon and on my very first visit he introduced me to the entire staff that would be assisting with my care, which made me feel confident that I had chosen the right practice. It has only gone uphill from there. I love that place!!
