Dental implants are an incredible way to replace missing teeth, but they do require proper care and maintenance. In fact, if you want your dental implants to last, you’ll want to treat them just like you would your other teeth! Here are some essential tips for helping your implants last a lifetime.

Treat Your Implants Like You Would Your Teeth

Implants are designed to last for life, if not several decades at a time. As biocompatible and artificial tooth roots, you’ll want to act as if they’re anatomical teeth. Don’t eat or bite into anything that you wouldn’t with normal teeth (like opening bottles or packages.) Implants are strong, but they’re not indestructible.

Brush Your Dental Implants Twice a Day

Like the rest of your teeth, dental implants need regular care. That means brushing them twice a day with a soft toothbrush, paying particular attention to the gumlines. Although they can’t get cavities, dental implants can fail if gum infections develop.

Floss Around Your Implants Every Day

Even though implants are “artificial” tooth roots, you still need to floss around them daily. The main goal is to remove bacteria between teeth, implants, and just below the gumlines. If flossing is a challenge, consider using a water flosser instead.

Schedule Regular Cleanings

It’s important to stay on top of your oral hygiene routine regardless of how many implants you have. Plan a cleaning and exam with our Woodstock dentist at least once every six months.

The office is very friendly and very professional. My dentist is Dr. Doug Yoon and on my very first visit he introduced me to the entire staff that would be assisting with my care, which made me feel confident that I had chosen the right practice. It has only gone uphill from there. I love that place!!
