Partial dentures are used to replace missing teeth when there are still some healthy teeth in the mouth. Partial dentures fill the gap between healthy teeth in order to create a complete smile. Partial dentures are a great solution for those who have healthy teeth remaining in the mouth because the denture fills in the spaces of the smile to help make your smile more attractive, as well as make talking and eating easier.

People lose teeth for a variety of reasons: decay, trauma, injury being the most common. Most people do not lose all of their teeth, unless a full teeth extraction is necessary. Therefore, it is important to protect the remaining teeth and the health of the entire mouth. Whenever a tooth is lost, the adjacent teeth will begin to tilt or drift into the empty space. This shift will impact every aspect of your oral health. It will make your teeth more difficult to clean with a toothbrush and floss; it will make it more difficult to speak; it will make your speech sound different, as if you have a lisp or trouble enunciating your words. This shift will also impact the strength of your jaw bone.

The jaw bone is the number one supporting factor of your teeth. Your gums cover your jaw bone and help to hold them securely in place, but when a tooth is lost, the gums and jaw have nothing supporting that empty socket. The degeneration of bone will begin to occur over a period of time, affecting the remaining teeth in the mouth. This is a troublesome down-hill spiral that can get out of control very quickly if it is not taken care of sooner rather than later.

Partial dentures can provide the necessary strength and support for the jaw bone, gums, and adjacent teeth. A gum-colored base holds the replacement teeth, connected by a metal framework and may rest on the gum line. These partial dentures attach to the teeth that are still present using either precision attachments or metal clasps.

The office is very friendly and very professional. My dentist is Dr. Doug Yoon and on my very first visit he introduced me to the entire staff that would be assisting with my care, which made me feel confident that I had chosen the right practice. It has only gone uphill from there. I love that place!!
